Hi. They call me c. For the moment, I think I’ll keep my real identity to myself. Maybe a little further down the road and I’ll pull the curtain back.
Nonetheless, I think I’ll start by telling you a little bit about me. I got involved in the Internet during the dot com boom. I joined up with an energetic, well educated and successful entrepreneur to found a marketplace in the late 90′s. We quickly sold to another, better funded site that looked like a great fit for us. It also looked to be an excellent opportunity to cash out quick as our new sugar daddy was on the IPO trail.
Of course, the IPO never came. The boom went bust, but somehow we survived. We sold several more times and along the way my partner bowed out. I stuck with it though and ten years later I can honestly say that I have amassed knowledge and experience I would have never been able to access through a “climb the ladder” corporate job.
I have deep and extensive knowledge of both building and monetizing online properties. Some have been more successful than others and in the case of the “others” it really depends upon how you measure success.
Now that I’ve taken my project as far as it can go, it’s time for me to move on. I plan on doing so in two ways. First, launch two start-ups. One dealing with the financial services industry (an area of expertise for me) and another dealing with online advertising (using my experience as both an advertiser and publisher). And, second, write this blog. I want to chronicle my journey and along the way, I hope to show others how it’s done.
Of course, I don’t have all the answers. However, I do have all of the fundamentals. Building on the basics, I’ll share my successes, failures and what I learn. Enjoy!
